[ It's convenient, being in the same dorm as your sibling and pipe-bearer. All Casey has to do is put on a clean shirt and he's good to go.

He finds his sister waiting for him by the front doors, to which he raises a hand to give her a wave. ]

Hey. You know what we haven't done in a while?

[ She's got a vape now, never question your sister's resources, Casey. And when he asks his question, she looks at him.]

[ He never will. He just assumes she's got whatever it is he'll have a craving for. Usually when he asks, Charlie's got it. Such a reliable sis. ]

Gone running in the woods.

[ Casey is sure she knows what he means.

Not as they are now, but ... in their other, more furry form. They've been at the school for almost long enough to see their first moon cycle, and honestly, he can kind of feel it under the surface of his skin, that wild, predatory, itching-to-run-as-fast-as-he-could-on-all-fours side of him. ]

[ She offers up the vape as she looks at him with a perked eyebrow.] And... you want to? [ as much as she hates to shift, she does love to run. and she loves to run with her brother. nipping at his heels. he's always been faster as a wolf, despite her being faster as a human.]

[ Casey shrugs, accepting the vape with gratitude. ]

I dunno. Could be fun without the rest of the pack to boss us around and control every single thought we have.

[ Right? Maybe?

It's something like maybe, possibly trying to be okay with that other half of themselves in an environment that doesn't feel dangerous and risky and suffocating.

He takes a moment to inhale from the vape, let the thought sit. ]

[ She looks entertained and intrigued at the thought.] It could be, you're right.

Full moon's coming. We could see how far the woods go on this island. [ Casey exhales, feeling good already. ]

Or we could run around the island. I don't actually know how big this place is.

[ He kind of slept most of the ride here. ]

Maybe we should save the island tour for when we know this place better, know it's actually secure. [ For all that she could be reckless with her own safety or wellbeing, she's not about to risk his.

She sounds like dad.]

[ Isn't that why dad sent them here?

Casey shrugs. ]

We could see how far we get until it doesn't feel right anymore. I - uh. I was gonna talk to the alpha here. But I don't know, is it weird that I haven't yet?

I feel like maybe he'll try to get us to join his pack while we're here.

[ And following one ultimate leader had been enough. ]

Apparently not that safe if what happened at the dance really did happen. [ That didn't sound like it was totally secure.]

Aunt Nev wouldn't let us join even if we wanted to. [ She was their pack's alpha and for all that Charlie hates the pack hierarchy, she wouldn't pick another alpha over their aunt if she had a choice.]

I haven't talked to him either so don't worry about it. [ She holds out her hand and wiggles her fingers towards herself to indicate that she wants the vape now.]

[ Casey passes the vape back to his sister after another hit. ]

Yeah. I haven't really talked to aunt Nev either.

[ Has he more or less been ignoring his wolfishness since he'd left home and came here?

Maybe ...

Not that he's entirely aware of the fact that he is - or did - ignoring anything at all, but it's easy to do when he thinks of himself as more boy than wolf.

And avoiding any family but his sister also seemed like a smart idea.

He's going to have to face all of it soon though. He knows that. ]

The wolf thing stresses me out a lot, I guess.

I haven't really spoken to her either. I don't... who knows if she's reporting back to dad or not. [ She shrugs and takes a hit of the vape, inhaling and then slowly exhaling.]

[ Basically Casey isn't sure he can trust anyone but Charlie when it comes to wolf/family stuff. ]

You should talk to her, though. You don't have to tell her anything besides bullshit. [ She takes another, harder hit, because if they're about to turn, she's about to be in a world of hurt for a minute.]

[ Yeah. The transformation hurts like a bitch, and it's sharp and wet and violent and gruesome, honestly.

Even though it's all he's ever known, it's not an easy thing. ]

She doesn't ask about dad, does she? Like, do they even keep in touch?

Really? I guess dad never talked about Aunt Nev either.

But then he always did have a one-track mind.

[ AKA nothing else mattered but his one-man revenge mission.

It's his turn now to signal for the vape. He needs to be way higher than this. ]

They are close. [ As far as Charlie knew, they'd always been close despite the fact that Nev took alpha of their pack from their grandfather. It was meant to be or something. She was too young to understand the politics.]

You don't remember but Dad wasn't always like he was. [ Here, have the vape. ]

[ Case takes the vape and, yeah, he's gonna smoke this up good.

The last thing he wants to do is think about his father and what the guy was like once upon a time. He doesn't remember a whole lot about him when mom was still alive. Hell, he doesn't remember a whole lot about mom either. (Though what little he does remember, he keeps very, very close to the heart.)

But he trusts Charlie to her word. Doesn't mean he's going to start asking about him or anything. ]

If mom was still around, do you think we'd have any reason to come here anyway?

[ He's not sure what possesses him to blurt out the question, but ... well. Just because he's not asking about dad doesn't mean he can't ask about mom. ]

[ Their father loved fiercely, loved them fiercely and that only made his paranoia worse. But there was a time that his love was displayed in ways that were lectures on safety and taking them away from the home they knew. Charlie's bitterness did not match Casey's but she couldn't blame her brother for feeling the way he did. Their father had to reap what he sowed.

His question takes her by surprise and she nods.]

Yes. Something's happening. I've been hearing little rumors. I think they might have to sent us here to be safe, especially since Aunt Nev is here. I think... if Aunt Nev doesn't have kids or whatever, we're next in line to lead the pack. [ At least, being that they are the eldest son's children. But she didn't think either of them were alphas or alpha material. And Charlie was okay with that. It was a responsibility she wouldn't want.]
